South Africa is positioned at the southernmost tip of Africa, with a lengthy coastline stretching to more than 2,500 km across two oceans of South Atlantic and the Indian. With a surface area at 1,219,912 sq km, it comes number 25th in the world size-wise. Njesuthi in the Drakensberg at 3,408 m is South Africa’s highest point. The South Africa is bound by countries Namibia, Zimbabwe and Botswana in the north, to the east are Mozambique and Swaziland, while the Kingdom of Lesotho is an autonomous enclave surrounded by South African territory.

Known for its multiplicity in languages, cultures, and religious beliefs, South Africa boasts of 11 official languages well recognized in the constitution viz; isiXhosa, Sepedi, Setswana, Afrikaans, Siswati, Tshivenda, Xitsonga, Sesotho, isiNdebele, and isiZulu.
English is the most widely spoken language in the public. South Africa is ethnically diverse.
With the ending apartheid in 1994, South Africa integrated the formerly independent and semi-independent Bantustans into a revised political structure. This it did by abolishing the 4 former provinces of Cape, Natal, Transvaal and Orange Free State and replaced them with nine fully integrated provinces further also divided into smaller administrative units. In principle there is no single culture in South Africa, and this is as a result of its ethnic diversity. Today, the diversity in foods from many cultures is enjoyed by all and especially marketed to tourists.
