Africa is world-famous for one of the largest concentrations of rarest species of birds. The continent is packaged with a multitude of rare varieties of birds that you will find anywhere else. Being in the natural habitat, these birds represent different bird families and notions. That is why ornithologists around the world give Africa as a priority destination to increase knowledge on birds world over. If you take interest in bird examination, you should consider taking a trip to this country and enjoying the difference.
Excursions to locations rich of bird species are rare. In Africa, you can find many locations wherein you can find birds that you will hardly see anywhere else. By watching such beautiful species, you can get to know so many new things about their behaviour and origin. You can also find a similarity between different species in order to improve your overall understanding on the matter. Sometimes, on such trips, you can reach in day one whereas sometimes, you have to travel miles just to witness you birds of choice.
From the clouds of pink created by flamingos rising from the water, their wings vivid in the early morning light, to the bizarre bobbing of the secretary bird, and the ominous presence of the circling vulture, there is a continually varying vista of bird life that will delight even the most enthusiastic bird watcher and photographer.
Take along your apparatus and equipment to watch your favourite from close. You can clearly observe them and write your own thesis. If you do not want to witness them from an expert point of view, you can just watch them like an amateur who praise the beauty of the Mother Nature in its raw form. Take pictures and make a whole collection of pictures with birds.

Africa is a land of natural wonders and tremendous elegance. Africa might be the best honeymoon destination. Safari Honeymoons in Africa have turned out to be a sound favorite with newlyweds because they merge the explorations of the wild with extravagant therapy and accommodation. Following the pressure stuffed days preceding a wedding, it is vital for a bride and groom to get closer away from it all, and why not invest it having fun in the breathtaking splendor of the African bush and experiencing the marvels of nature with each other?
A honeymoon in exotic Africa will let you spend your time in a place which is secluded and uncrowded. You’ll find yourselves completely removed from the noise and bustle of more well known honeymoon spots, as your African safari honeymoon find you driving on wild game-viewing tours through unspoiled African bush or the countless spaces before returning for your secluded luxury lodgings. Dine beneath the African stars as the calls of evening creatures sound overhead.

OUR RECOMMENDED DESTINATIONS

Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town is a truly romantic city in which to take a honeymoon vacation, especially in the event you opt to pair it together with the romantic island of Mauritius or an African safari journey. The city has a dazzling array of boutique hotels, from colonial palaces to smooth boudoirs located about the bustling Victoria and Albert Waterfront. For those that opt for to take your high end honeymoon in Cape Town, then Table Mountain is definitely worth a visit and a cable vehicle trip towards the leading offers magnificent views of the glittering Atlantic Ocean below.

Our East Africa map offers general travel information for travelers planning to come to East Africa in all aspects including information on countries, major cities of East Africa and tourist attractions.
East Africa is the Easterly part of the African continent diversely defined by geography. Situated on the equator, the region comprises of countries of Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda.

The region has recently realized an integration where the border limits have been collapsed as well as immigration restrictions removed. A single tourist visa for the region is now in place.

Geographically East Africa is a stunning and scenic touristic destination. Shaped by global plate tectonic forces that have created the Great Rift Valley, East Africa is the site of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya, which have the two tallest peaks in Africa. It also includes the world’s second largest freshwater body, Lake Victoria, and the world’s second deepest water body Lake Tanganyika.
Climate
East Africa experiences dominantly equatorial types of climate with two traditional rain seasons, the long rains that come during the months of April and May; and short rains of October to November. The East African coast is relatively humid and inland it gets cold due to the high altitude.

Are you considering a holiday in Africa? Please do not look back because the continent has so much in terms of activities and tourist attractions to offer. The amazing beauty of Africa as a holiday destination is evidenced by its abundant immaculate beaches, huge desert stretches of desert, picturesque mountains, interesting cultures, hundreds of national parks and reserves among other interesting attractions. Such diverse richness presents excellent holiday destinations that lure countless adventurous travelers into taking Africa vacations and safaris.

AFRICA’S MOST SOUGHT HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS

Some of Africa’s most sought holiday destinations are Egypt, Tunisia, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Mauritius, Ethiopia, Seychelles, Botswana, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda and Zanzibar.
Ancient Egypt tours enable visitors to experience the beauty and splendor of the land of the Pharaohs with tours to explore the cities of Alexandria, Luxor and Cairo; the Great Pyramids, Sphinx as well as romantic cruises on River Nile, along with exploration of the cities of Cairo and Alexandria.
Kenya Holidays lead you to the untouched sandy beaches of Mombasa and Malindi. Once in Kenya, adventure tours to Masai Mara National Reserve to watch the spectacular annual Wildebeest migration and Mount Kenya hikes are most times irresistible.
Many African travelers find it easy to connect from Kenya with a wildlife safari to Tanzania where you can visit the Mahale Mountains National Park or climb Mount Kilimanjaro. From Tanzania, you can take a flight to the neighbouring Uganda, for a chance to track Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Africa-bound holiday travelers have lately found Rwanda irresistible for a safari holiday. Rwanda is today one of the best holiday spots in Africa. This is attributed to the fast recovery it has undergone since the 1994 Genocide. Tracking the elusive Mountain Gorillas in the Volcano national park is the ultimate highlight of Rwanda safari holidays.
A South Africa holiday trip takes you to fascinating spots such as world-famous Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town, Addo Elephant National Park, Kruger National Park and Durban City – renowned for its gorgeous sandy beaches.
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN UNDERTAKE ON HOLIDAY TO AFRICA
It is plausible to acknowledge that majority of Africa travelers prioritize wildlife safaris as they arrange their Africa travel, but there are other interesting activities that can be undertaken while on a holiday in Africa. Guide for Africa highlights the most popular holiday activities that would make your trip memorable especially if you are a first-time Africa traveler.

Africa is an exceptional destination with an assortment of landscapes, lakes, rivers, vegetation, cultural activities, geographical features, wildlife, birds, fish and insects. It is realistic that different travelers to the continent come for different reasons. Go to Africa for a great holiday. However, when coming for adventure safaris in Africa, you may not be able to do all of them during one visit, unless of course you have a lot of time.
Guideforafrica selects for you the best options to consider for an adventurous trip to Africa. We recommend that with proper planning and consulting Africa tour operators you can cover aspects of all of them in at least two trips. But it all remains that if you are looking for some adventure in the wilderness, Africa is your answer.

WILDLIFE SAFARIS
Wildlife safaris in Africa are indeed mesmerizing experiences with amazing diversity of flora and fauna. Wildlife travelers here get vast opportunities to rub shoulders with the rich diversity of African jungles. Tourists as well as conservationists from around the world frequent Africa to savor the rich heritage of African wildlife. Among all African animals, the big five (lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard) are the most popular, and perhaps most fascinating to observe. The experience of seeing them and other animals in their natural habitat is indeed very amazing. No wonder the word “African safari” is almost synonymous with wildlife safaris.
There are so many places in Africa that give you a rewarding wildlife experience, top on the list is Namibia’s Etosha National Park, South Africa’s Kruger national park, Kenya’s Masai Mara National Park, Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Ethiopia’s Awash National Park and Serengeti national park in Tanzania. You can also have an equally (or even more) satisfying safari experience in other less known wildlife destinations like Chobe National Park in Botswana, South Luangwa national park in Zambia, and Loango national park in Gabon.
For a first-time visit to Africa, I would recommend starting with any of the parks mentioned above. Besides the rare species of the African animal kingdom, the natural vegetation of the continent is resplendent with lush landscape.

CULTURAL SAFARIS
Africa is a unique continent that takes pride in its unity amidst diversity. The continent is indisputable diverse created because of the geographical disparity, the variation in the languages spoken here, the cuisine that is savored in the different regions, and even in the costumes that are adorned by the natives here. If you are the kind of traveler who is enthralled by scenic beauty and mesmerized by history, attracted by cultural abundance and a true connoisseur of ethnic cuisine, then Read more about Africa Cultural tours here.

SIGHTSEEING TOURS
Touring and traveling is favorite hobby of millions of people. Africa boasts numerous awe-inspiring tourist attractions. Most Africa sightseeing tours are quite entertaining ventures packed with entertainment and details of your destination, a private sightseeing tour is an effective option to know your place of visit as it acquaints you with your holiday spot quite effortlessly. Top of Africa’s natural land features for a sightseeing tour include the mighty Victoria Falls at the Zambia – Zimbabwe border, the giant sand dunes of Sossusvlei in Namibia, the Okavango delta in Botswana, Egypt’s great pyramids, the Sphinx at Giza, the Valley of the Kings, the temples at Abu Simbel, the Karnak temple complex, and the valley of the queens and Fish river canyon in Namibia. In Mali in West Africa, the ancient city of Djenne is an equally fascinating site. The city is home to the world’s largest mud brick building, the great mosque of Djenne. You may not wish to miss out on Ethiopia’s Lalibela monolithic churches; The Western Cape in South Africa, a premier tourist attraction, sightseeing tour in Morocco lead you to the Atlantic Coast region plus several other destinations.

ADVENTURE EXCURSIONS
There are lots of other activities for an adventure trip in Africa. You can fly over the Victoria falls on a micro light helicopter, go for gorilla tracking expeditions in the great Lakes region, canoeing, white water rafting, and kayaking (e.g. in Sagana and Nanyuki in Kenya), skydiving (e.g. in the annual Diani boogie in Kenya), snorkeling and white shark diving in South Africa, overlanding from Cairo to Cape Town in South Africa.

BEACH HOLIDAYS
Africa probably does not spring to mind as the first destination you would choose when planning a beach holiday, but in absolute honesty the continent is not only about National parks and rich culture. It also has some of the fines beaches. A great way to wrap up your African safari is to go on beach holiday to the Indian Ocean islands, Mauritius, Madagascar, Seychelles, Cape Verde Islands, Morocco and Zanzibar.

The highest mountain peaks of Africa are based in Kenya. Mount Kilimanjaro treks are equally very enjoyable but only if there is a proper guide who can assist at each and every step. Kilimanjaro is visited each year by thousands of tourists.
There are the snow-capped peaks of Mount Rwenzori – the Mountains of the Moon, which provide a tantalizing challenge to dedicated mountaineers, not forgetting the Virunga Volcanoes which also offer highly rewarding hiking opportunities through scintillating highland scenery. Mount Elgon is another perfect hiking destination in Eastern Uganda. Comparatively, travelers really have wonderful time to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Elgon.

WILDLIFE SAFARIS

For the worldwide adventure lovers, Safari is one of the most desired activity. Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve is undoubtedly the Africa’s prime and most popular safari destination and it has always fulfilled its promise of adventure. Most travelers here speak of the wildebeest migration as the most astonishing sight they have ever seen. An annual migration of the wildebeest from Tanzania in July or sometimes in August, and their return from Kenya in October leaves several tourists mesmerized.
Dubbed “The greatest snow on the earth”, the phenomenon involves approximately 2 millions of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle wandering at regular intervals between Tanzania and Kenya. The herd of animals draws towards northwards to the juicy grasses of the Masai Mara in anticipation of rain. This migration is the major moments in wildlife and highlight of East African Safaris and so marvelous to view.
You can also take a drive to the highlands of Aberdares where you will see herds of elephants and rhinos and later a diversion to Samburu National Reserve where you can spot the elusive leopard. Lake Naivasha National Park has a huge population of hippos which make the region truly adventurous. Others wildlife safaris destinations include Tanzania’s Lake Manyara National Park, the Serengeti also home to breathtaking wildlife.
The Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda also offers wonderful view of flamingos. The charm of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park goes much beyond the viewing of endangered mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat. The animals are Uganda’s star attraction; the bulkiest of living primates, and among the most peaceable. Volcano Park remains the best place in Rwanda to adventure.

WALKING SAFARIS

Walking safaris in East Africa offer the best experience you will ever have in your life time. This involves walking through a great diversity of landscapes, woodlands, plains and various water channels. It is a great experience walking through unfenced wilderness, where you have the freedom to explore the bushes as you watch the wildlife in their natural habitats. It is an ideal opportunity to visit the hidden and remote areas, while you view the endless landscapes such as the Serengeti plains or the Masai Mara Game Reserve. East Africa walking safaris will give you a chance to see the big five including lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, buffalo; and other wildlife animals.

BIRDING SAFARIS

Birding in East Africa is an exciting experience for nature lovers and bird watchers. From dancing peacocks to the colourful flamingos, the region boasts a rich list of rare bird species with sheer dynamics & impressive diversity. Bird watching tours to Wildlife Sanctuaries & National Parks are organised by the specialist tourist guides & experts for better sighting & bird knowledge. Lake Nakuru, Queen Elizabeth, Lake Mburo, Serengeti National Park, Lake Manyara, Lake Bogoria and Baringo, Budongo Forest, Arusha Park, and many other destinations offers some of the best birding spot in the region. The most popular species of birds spotted on Bird watching holidays in the East African region are: Fish eagles, pelicans, sparrows, wood peckers, bulbul, ibises, storks and herons.

Africa is a varied continent. It is one of the most sought after tourism destinations in the world. It is a dream safari destination that rewards even the most adventurous with its numerous fascinating tourist wonders and mind-blowing attractions. However, the increased exposure of Africa to both the African and tourists from other continents boosted Africa travel experiences, but has also pushed up the cost of travel. Guideforafrica gives you a few Africa budget travel tips to help you negotiate your way out in Africa.

GETTING THERE

Getting to Africa can be one of your greatest travel expenses. The sooner you can book your flight the cheaper it will be. There are many discount airlines to Africa so do you research to find the cheapest one. Keep in mind that traveling in Africa is characteristically adventurous; there are also more popular times. If you are traveling in the tourist season, or during a long weekend or festival, cheap flights will tend to go a lot faster. If you can’t seem to find a reasonable flight price try changing your dates. Even by just a few days can help. Flights are generally more expensive during special season particular Christmas and end of year. On arrival, you should have a visa/passport to the airport and, respect and check all visa rules with your travel agency.

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL

The climate of Africa ranges from tropical to sub arctic on its highest peaks. Know the appropriate time of the year for your travel in your destinations of choice. Find out the busiest travel period, what you need to carry, and the season of the event or activities you would like to see. Make careful online search about the weather of your destination before deciding when to set off.

BUDGET ACCOMMODATION

It is very important to plan your stay correctly to enjoy your Africa holiday to the full. Again booking ahead is paramount. It guarantees you what you want. Africa has several types of accommodations ranging from hotels, guest houses, bush lodges, spas, bed and breakfasts, tented camps, boat houses, game lodges to name but a few. Good hotels at good rates go quickly. If you don’t want to book in advance then be prepared to be patient. Guest houses and lodges are very popular for Africa safaris. The further away from city centre and tourist sites the cheaper accommodation gets. When choosing your hotel, consider access, security and available facilities. First trust the venue before putting yourself in vulnerable situations.

EATING OUT

Saving money on food when traveling can be the most difficult part. You want to eat well and save money at the same time. Experiencing different cultural foods can be one of the best parts of traveling. Try and keep your eating habits at bay. Choose to go to the grocery store to buy at once is also perfect. Buy bread and make sandwiches in your hotel room before heading out for the day. Of course you will still want to dine out and enjoy the African cuisines; we recommend that you make sure you set a budget for dining out so that you know how often you can afford to do so and what you can have.

GETTING AROUND

In all honesty, public transport in Africa isn’t very reliable. Booking an organised tour can be very economical and convenient. There are hundreds of safari tour operators in all countries of Africa listed with www.guideforafrica.com. They offer varied tour packages and travel terms. Visit www.guideforafrica.com/tour-operators or use the online search to choose the best that will suit your tastes ad budget size.

In conclusion

Traveling to Africa for an adventure holiday can be both inexpensive and extremely exciting. Depending on the availability of money, decide on a budget and time frame that will suit your travel and plan ahead.

Overview
Africa is the second largest and second most-populous continent in the world. It comes after Asia. It occupies 30.2 million sq km including the adjacent islands; covers 6 percent of the Earth’s total surface area and 20.5 percent of the entire land area. With a billion people in 61 separate boundaries, Africa accounts for close to 14.8 percent of the World’s human population.

Africa, central eastern region in particular, is extensively regarded scientifically to be the origin of humans and the great apes, as proved by the discovery of the earliest hominids and their ancestors, as well as later ones that have been dated to roughly seven million years ago including Sahelanthropus tchadensis and Australopithecus africanus.

Geography

Africa, one of the three giant southward projections from the large landmass of the Earth, is the biggest. Separated from Europe by the Mediterranean Sea, the ‘Dark Continent’ is joined to Asia at its northeast extremity by the Isthmus of Suez (transected by the Suez Canal), 163 km wide. (Note, Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula east of the Suez Canal is often considered part of Africa, as well.)
The continent is surrounded by the Indian Ocean to the southeast, the Mediterranean Sea to the north, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west and both the Suez Canal and the Red Sea along the Sinai Peninsula to the northeast. Not counting the disputed territory of Western Sahara, there are 53 countries, including Madagascar and various island groups, connected with the continent.

From Cape Verde, 17°33’22″ W, the westernmost point, to Ras Hafun in Somalia, 51°27’52″ E, the most easterly projection, is a distance of approximately 7,400 km (4,600 miles); and from Tunisia’ Ras ben Sakka- the most northerly point (37°21′ N), to Cape Agulhas in South Africa, the most southerly point (34°51’15″ S), is an approximate distance 8,000 km (5,000 miles); The coastline is 26,000 km (16,100 miles) long, and the absence of deep indentations of the shore is demonstrated by the fact that Europe, which covers only 10,400,000 km² (4,010,000 square miles) – about a third of the surface of Africa – has a coastline of 32,000 km (19,800 miles).

Sudan is the continent’s largest country, and its smallest is the Seychelles- an archipelago off the east coast. The smallest nation on the continental mainland is The Gambia. According to the ancient Romans, Africa lay to the west of Egypt, while “Asia” was used to refer to Anatolia and lands to the east. A definite line was drawn between the two continents by the geographer Ptolemy (85–165 AD), indicating Alexandria along the Prime Meridian and making the Isthmus of Suez and the Red Sea the boundary between Asia and Africa.

Geologically, Africa includes the Zagros Mountains of Iran; the Arabian Peninsula; and the Anatolian Plateau of Turkey mark where the African Plate collided with Eurasia. The Afro tropic ecozone and the Saharo-Arabian desert to its north unite the region bio-geographically, and the Afro-Asiatic language family unites the north linguistically.

Climate & Vegetation

Africa straddles the equator and encompasses numerous climate areas; it is the only continent to stretch from the northern temperate to southern temperate zones. The ‘Dark Continent’s’ climate ranges from tropical to sub arctic on its highest peaks. Its northern half is primarily desert or arid, while its central and southern areas contain both savanna plains and very dense jungle (rainforest) regions. In between, there is a convergence where vegetation patterns such as Sahel and steppe dominate.

African Wildlife

Africa boasts perhaps the world’s largest combination of density and “range of freedom” of wild animal populations as well diversity, with wild populations of large carnivores such as lions, hyenas, and cheetahs; and herbivores such as buffalo, deer, elephants, camels, and giraffes ranging freely on primarily open non-private plains. Africa is also home to a variety of jungle creatures including snakes and primates and aquatic life including crocodiles and amphibians. Africa’s wilderness pride is also exhibited in its large number of mega fauna species, as it was least affected by the extinction of the Pleistocene mega fauna.

Religions of Africa

Africans profess a wide variety of religious beliefs and statistics on religious affiliation are difficult to come by since they are too sensitive a topic for governments with mixed populations. Accordingly, Islam is the largest religion in Africa with 45% of the population being Muslims; this is followed by Christianity which makes up 40%; less than 15% are non-religious or follow African religions. A small number of Africans are Hindu, Baha’i, or have beliefs from the Judaic tradition. Examples of African Jews are the Beta Israel, Lemba peoples and the Abayudaya in Eastern Uganda.

West Africa is the westernmost region of the African continent. Countries in West Africa are; Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo. These 16 Western Africa countries are distributed over an area of approximately 5 million sq km.
With the exception of Mauritania, the rest of these countries are members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The UN region also includes the island of Saint Helena, a British overseas territory in the South Atlantic Ocean.

Background

West Africa is oriented west of an imagined north-south axis lying close to 10° east longitude. The Atlantic Ocean forms the western and southern borders of the region. The northern border is the Sahara Desert, with the Niger Bend generally considered the northernmost part of the region. The eastern border is less precise, with some placing it at the Benue Trough, and others on a line running from Mount Cameroon to Lake Chad.
Colonial boundaries are reflected in the modern boundaries between contemporary West African nations, cutting across ethnic and cultural lines, often dividing single ethnic groups between two or more countries.
The inhabitants of West Africa are, in contrast to most of Sub-Saharan Africa, non-Bantu speaking peoples.

Geography and climate

West Africa, with the western portion of the Maghreb inclusive occupies an area in surplus of 6,140,000 sq km. That is approximately one-fifth of the African continent. The vast majority of this land is plains lying less than 300 meters above sea level, though isolated high points exist in numerous countries along the southern shore of the region.
The northern section of West Africa is composed of semi-arid terrain known as Sahel, a transitional zone between the Sahara desert and the savannahs of the western Sudan forests form a third belt between the savannas and the southern coast, ranging from 160 km to 240 km in width.

West African Culture & Religion

Despite the wide variety of cultures in West Africa, from Nigeria through to Senegal, there are general similarities in dress, cuisine, music and culture that are not shared extensively with groups outside the geographic region.

Islam is the predominant historical religion of the West African interior and the far west coast of the continent; Christianity is the predominant religion in coastal regions of Nigeria, Ghana, and Cote d’Ivoire; and elements of indigenous religions are practiced throughout.
History of West Africans

The history of West Africa can be divided into five major periods: i.e.

1. Prehistory – in which the first human settlers arrived, developed agriculture, and made contact with peoples to the north.
2. The Empires -The Iron Age empires that consolidated both intra-African and extra-African trade, and developed centralized states. The development of the region’s economy allowed more centralized states and civilizations to form, beginning with the Nok civilization which began 500 B.C. and the Ghana Empire in the 8th century AD which stretched to the Mali Empire. Based around the city of Kumbi Saleh in modern-day Mauritania, the empire came to dominate much of the region until its defeat by Almoravid invaders in 1052. Many Communities organized themselves into chiefdoms.
3. Slavery and European invention, Major polities flourished, which would undergo an extensive history of contact with non-Africans.
4. The colonial period, the period in which Great Britain and France controlled nearly the whole of the region.
5. The post-independence era, Following Second World War, nationalist movements arose across West Africa. In 1957, Ghana, under Kwame Nkrumah, became the first sub-Saharan colony to achieve its independence, followed the next year by France’s colonies (Guinea in 1958 under the leadership of President Ahmed Sekou Touré); by 1974, West Africa’s nations were entirely autonomous
Since independence, many West African nations have been plagued by corruption and instability, with notable civil wars in Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Côte d’Ivoire, and a succession of military coups in Ghana and Burkina Faso. Many states have failed to develop their economies despite enviable natural resources, and political instability is often accompanied by undemocratic government.
Until recently, most governments in West Africa were illiberal and corrupt and several countries have been plagued with political coups, ethnic violence and oppressive dictators. Since the end of colonialism, the region has been the stage for some of the most brutal conflicts ever to erupt. Among the latter are:
•	Nigerian Civil War
•	First Liberian Civil War
•	Second Liberian Civil War
•	Guinea-Bissau Civil War
•	Ivorian Civil War
•	Sierra Leone Civil War

Though a few countries like Ghana and Senegal have enjoyed relative stability and have even seen some growth, all progress in the region is contingent on the efficacy and justness of governance and the fair allocation of resources which, for the moment, both leave much to be desired.

Regional organizations

•	The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), founded by the 1975 Treaty of Lagos, is an organization of West African states which aims to promote the region’s economy.
•	The West African Monetary Union (or UEMOA it’s limited to the eight, mostly Francophone countries that employ the CFA franc as their common currency.
•	The Liptako-Gourma Authority of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso seeks to jointly develop the contiguous areas of the three countries.

An excursion of a life time in Nairobi involving Wildlife Tours, Camping, Fly-in Holidays, Mountain trekking and Marangu Route

Kenya is the original home of Africa safari holidays. It is the most fashionable African safari country for safari vacations. Very diverse natural resources including the world-famous annual Wildebeest Migration at Masai Mara National Reserve, from coral reefs to the rich culture and traditions of the old age Masai community, breathtaking sceneries and Mountain peaks. History has it that Man’s earliest ancestors may well have originated here in Africa, Turkana, Northern Kenya as long as five million years ago.

Mt Elgon Trekkers

Arrive in Kenya and instantly proceed to the Nairobi National Park. This is Kenya’s first ever National Park with a unique and well preserved wildlife haven within sight of the city’s skyline. Rhino, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, lion and plenty of gazelles can be seen roaming in this open plains country with a section of highland forest as well as stretches of broken bush country, deep, rocky valleys and gorges with scrub and long grass. After lunch you will want a visit to the Giraffe Centre where you will have the chance to see the Rothschild giraffe and hand feed them or drink tea with the giraffes.
You will also visit the renowned Nairobi National Museum with an array of spell binding displays of the early man, tribal regalia and the flora and fauna of Kenya. Visit to the adjacent snake park will also be included.
A plus is that even the weather favors the holiday vacations year in year out. As an environment devotee, you will be at home once in Kenya. There is a lot to see and do: lodge safaris, Mountain climbing, Camping Tour vacations, trekking, cultural visits or ballooning over Masai Mara. You may also choose to just sip your sundowner drink, while the sun goes down, finalizing the long day.

It is really interesting to note that the Kikuyu community built their house facing Mount Kenya, ‘home of the god’, Ngai.
Located on the central Kenya, the Mountain is one of the most famous and well known adventure points in Africa and world at large. With magnificent snow-caped peaks which protrude to the foggy airs above, it is one of the most visited nature reserves in Kenya. Mount Kenya’s twin peaks of Batian and Nelion crown one of the world’s highest national parks – 704 kms of forest, moorland, rock and ice.
Climbing Mount Kenya
As you leave camp in the morning and proceed with the climb, the various peaks of Mt Kenya start showing themselves in front of you. You leave the bamboo forest behind you and the alpine plants of Mt Kenya appear gradually. Various species of the lobelia plants will eventually take over the higher you climb.
You do not need to be a professional climber to enjoy the scenes of Mount Kenya, but You need to be physically fit, and the climb is well worth it. Batian and Nelion can only be reached by professional climbers with technical skill. It is point Lenana, third highest point that is the target for most climbers as no technical skill needed.
The common safari trek routes on Mount Kenya are; Naro Moru Route, Sirimoni Track and Chogoria Route. Mount Kenya, also known for its almost regular afternoon showers is easily accessible from Nairobi, the central city of Kenya. It is every adventurer’s paradise with fine routes to test each climber
Trekking Tips
The trekkers need to be accompanied by a trekking guide or someone who have been there before and with proper knowledge of the tracks. This is not compulsory, but it is not unknown for ill prepared trekkers to get lost on the mountain. Sometimes the results are fatal. Though lone trekkers venture into the mountain, it’s a risk not worth taking.
In addition to the lovely sceneries of Mount Kenya, adventurers will find themselves face to face with the shy Sykes monkeys, lots of different plant species or occasional buffalo crossing the track a couple of meters ahead of you.
You will not miss the chirping of birds in early morning especially on the lower points, the bronze colored sunbirds hopper between lobelia and groundsels in search of nectar just in front of you undisturbed by your presence.

Imagine the magical touch of African wilderness, the wide skies spread over the horizon, a crackling campfire and the spectacular sunset! Yes you are there already having fun on a routine day of an Africa camping safari.

Camping has always been considered basic, a concept and an understanding which has changed over time. There are 3 types of camping safaris, we have the semi participation, the non participation and then the luxurious camping safari which involves flying from camp to camp.

For a successful camping safari in Africa, it’s important to be in small groups, maximum 10 people who have no serious problems with interacting.
We recommend camping safaris are fully serviced where by the guides and support staff put up the camp, and take care of every detail, so that you can simply relax and enjoy these diverse and well-planned camping safari adventures.

Welcome to the best online guide for walking safaris Africa Holidays. Exclusive private walking safaris where you will witness the true wilderness experience of Africa. The beautiful terrains of Africa are simply unmatched. Perhaps the ancient secrets that Africa has to offer are discovered by those who take time to walk around and about.
A walking safari in Africa is synonymous with fun filled adventure and the promotion of traditional safari style.
BEST WALKING SAFARI CATEGORIES IN AFRICA
Wilderness trails: This walking safari involves you, (thought that was obvious), what else? You will be in company of a guide carrying your gear and other provisions. You can decide on more guides, scouts, porters and cooks, e.t.c
South Africa Walking Safari Imfolozi Wilderness Trail: Trailists here are guaranteed close encounters with this two-tonne tank of herbivores – and possible nerve-jangling brushes with its smaller-but-stroppier cousin, the black rhino. The emphasis is not on big game – though there’s plenty of it about – but on the raw wilderness experience.
Backed-up walking safari: You will have a support staff from the safari company who will set up a rolling camp basis depending on your destination and time consideration. All camps that you have ever imagined are found in Africa. You can choose between the very basic or the perhaps luxurious tented camps. Difference is clear!
Bush Camp Safaris: Could also fit the description of traditional camps. These are rather seasonal and very semi-permanent. You will find that these camps have vehicles or even boats on them. It’s all about adventure. Zambia‘s Luangwa Valley is undisputed capital of the on-foot big bush camp experience. Mwaleshi Camp, perched on the banks of the Mwaleshi River, is one of just three camps in the park.
Lodge based Safaris: in Africa you will find permanent lodges, both luxury and mid range to suit your needs. All luxuries and facilities are located in these lodges. Most of them offer fully fledged services with your comfort considered, but you will rarely find these ones with the Wildlife parks.
Birding Safaris: In Africa you are guaranteed to find birds everywhere you travel. A stroll in hotel gardens, a trip to the Wildlife Parks or reserves you will likely find bright black and yellow weavers, tiny iridescent sunbirds resembling flying jewels, Secretary Bird, Bustards and Mousebirds with long tails, which are unique to the rest of the world.
NamibRand Desert Trail: This is a walking safari with a difference: it’s in a desert. The three-day, two-night trail follows a circular route through the private NamibRand Nature Reserve and its gravel plains, towering red sand dunes and rugged mountains. At night, your bed-roll and washbasin are simply arranged on the sand, with a mind-boggling canopy of stars as your roof. But with hot water and three-course dinners, you won’t go without creature comforts.
Beach Safari Walking
Beach walking Safaris are prominent with islands of Seychelles, Mauritius and to some Kenya. This is a paradise experience on earth. The coastline of Africa is a tropical idyll of soft white sands and gentle sea breeze, where the passing of a day is marked by the slow arc of the sun. The pace of life on the coast is notably slower, languid, more relaxed and at peace with the world.
Other Walking Safaris Africa
- Kenya Safaris
- Tanzania Walking Safari Trail Ngorongoro
- Botswana Okavango Walking Trail Africa
- African Walking Safaris
- Adventure Safaris
- Cultural Safaris
