MARSABIT NATIONAL PARK
The park is located in Marsabit district, Eastern province; 560 km north of Nairobi. It was gazetted in 1962.
Marsabit national Park covers an area of 360 sq km, Marsabit National Reserve covers 1,554 sq km; comprising of thorny bush dominating the lower zone, merging into acacia grassland, while brown olive forest dominates the higher ground.
Generally, January-march is hot and dry; April-June is hot and wet, July-October is very warm and dry; November and December are warm and wet.
Fauna: includes; Greater Kudu, Grevy’s Zebra, Kirk’s dik-dik, Caracal, Africa Hare, Bat-eared fox, patas monkey, reticulated Giraffe, Lion, Baboon, leopard, warthog.
Birds: Over 400 recorded species including 52 species of birds of prey.
Accommodation
The Marsabit lodger is the only accommodation facility located in the park premises; strategically located to allow stunning views to the park from all its rooms.
Alternatively, you can choose to use campsites.
Public campsites
Ahmed campsite is located by the main Ahmed gate, 3.2km from Marsabit lodge.
The campsite facilities include; picnic tables, latrines, water and showers.
Abdul campsite is located by Abdul gate, close to park headquarters. Its facilities include; cooking Banda, picnic tables, latrines, water and showers.
Special campsites
Lake Paradise campsite, the site is located in a grassy clearing on the shores of lake Paradise.
Note: No facilities are offered here.
Any camping here requires presence of a ranger over night.
Attractions
-Fauna; Kudu, Grevy’s Zebra, Kirk’s dik-dik, Caracal, Africa Hare, Bat-eared fox, patas monkey, reticulated Giraffe, Lion, Baboon, leopard, warthog.
-Birds include; the Somali ostrich, heugin’s bustard, cream colored courser, vulture guinea fowl, duck, little grebe, purple heron, emerald-spotted wood dove, olive pigeon, Hartlaub’s Turaco.
-Lake Paradise ring crater
-Flora comprises of thorny bush, acacia grassland and brown olive forest.

Open: daily, 6:00am-7:00pm including pubic holidays.
Note: No entry is allowed on foot. Visitors will not be allowed entry after 6:15pm.

Entry is by cash paid at park entrance in Kshs or US$.
No smartcard required at present.

How to get there
By Air: There is an Airstrip at Marsabit, 4km from the park\s main gate.
By Road: Marsabit is 560 km north of Nairobi; the park’s main gate is at the edge of Marsabit town.
