Shimba Hills Safari, National Reserve Kenya

SHIMBA HILLS NATIONAL RESERVE

The park is renowned for its endangered Sable Antelope, for this reason it has been referred to as the “last retreat of the Sable Antelope”
Located 35km south west of Mombasa, inland from the Coastline, amidst a cool breeze and shaded forest, the park is set high on a bluff enabling magnificent view over the rain forest and coastline at a distance.

Biodiversity
Park resources include the Sable Antelope, Reed buck, Water buck, Hyena, Warthog, Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Duiker, Sykes’, Colobus and Vervet monkey, Serval cat.
The park has over 111 bird species.

How to get there
By Air: Shimba hills national reserve has an Airstrip within park boundaries.
By road: Available are well-maintained and signposted network of roads ideal for 2WD, however, a 4WD is preferred all year round.
From Mombasa, take the Likoni Ferry, proceed on the main south coast road, after a 13km drive, at a junction take the 12 km Kwale road in-land.
Entering through the Reserve’s main gate after only 3km from Kwale.

Accommodation
Sable Bandas are located at 3km from the main gate, within park premises; they are circular –shaped and one-roomed, with two single beds.
Each of the Bandas has an ensuite bathroom with shower and WC, a covered veranda with a dinning table and benches: as well as a well-equipped kitchen.

Note
The park is accessible all year round; open daily, 6:00am-7:00pm including public holidays.
No entry is allowed on foot.
After 6:15pm visitors will not be allowed entry into the reserve.

• Cameras, Binoculars, guide books.

Currency entry charges
Entry fees accepted only in Kshs and US $.
No credit card allowed.
