Hunting Safaris Namibia

Namibia offers one of the best destinations for classic hunting safaris in Africa. The country boasts significant numbers the big five that can be found anywhere in Africa such as the African Buffalo, Lion, Leopard as well as plenty of other game species like Roan, Kudu, Sable, Eland, Waterbuck, etc. Besides the wealth of wildlife, Namibia features a dry and delightful climate which makes hunting spectacular like no place else on earth. Travelers to Namibia are destined for unforgettable and unique encounters in the African wildlife jungles.
Most Hunting safaris in Namibia are usually big cat hunts designed to get the hunter a lion or leopard. The major task usually is to make a fast and perfect placed shot at short range. Specialized Namibia tour operators should be able to give you the desired experience in all Hunting and touring packages including booking comfortable accommodations.

GAME HUNTING HOTSPOTS IN NAMIBIA

Kalahari Desert
The Kalahari Desert in south-east Namibia is an area of ancient red dunes scattered with grass and low bush and umbrella-shaped Camelthorn trees. It is one of the most famous places to hunt big game animals, such as lions, hyenas, and a variety of other wildlife that populate the surrounding area. However, hunters sometimes must trek great distances on game walks and game drives led by chief hunter-gatherers of the desert, the San Bushmen (Basarwa).
Klawerberg

Located in the Dordabis Conservancy of the central region of Namibia, Klawerberg proudly presents the hunter 24,000 privately owned acres of magnificent prime game hunting territory. 22 species of African game are sighted in abundance, including the Kudu, Oryx, Zebra, Blesbok, Hartebeest, Springbok, Warthog, Eland and Wildebeest. Numerous smaller game and a wealth of bird life can also be seen.
Etosha
National Park
Etosha National Park is one of the prime African plains trophy hunting spots. This extensive national park shelters large herds of Springbok, Plain Zebra, Blue Wildebeest and Oryx. Hyenas, Lions and Elephants are regular visitors and often become a problem when they collide with the humans. The Park also has the black rhino which is considered endangered. A plains game hunter will seldom be offered to shoot one of those problem animals. Hunters that are prepared to arrive on short notice (within 5 days) can experience a big game hunt for a reduced price.
Khomas
Hochland Mountains

Situated 40 miles west of the capital, Windhoek, the foothills of beautiful mountainous Khomas Hochland are some of those hunting areas that are home to the largest free roaming Mountain Zebras and Oryx in southern Africa. Fly camps are popularly used in the more remote regions for overnight.

Other Hunting Destinations
Bushmanland Areas
Farm Natalia, Eastern Areas
Caprivi Strip

Hunting Season in Namibia
In General the hunting season in Namibia opens in February and runs through November. The 10 months long period incorporates four seasons. There are no particular months when plains game hunting is necessarily better, but time constraints or personal considerations such as weather, touring, wing shooting, bow hunting or specific seasonal activities might make a certain period of time more desirable to you.
Keep in mind while contemplating about your hunting tour to Namibia, that since the country lies in the Southern hemisphere, seasons are opposite of those in the Northern hemisphere.
In reality our Namibian climate is pleasantly low in humidity, the dry heat being much more tolerable and therefore more conducive to hunting safaris than is the case in most other destinations for hunting in Africa.

Lochinvar National Park Zambia

Lochinvar National Park lies south west of Lusaka in Zambia. It is perched on the southern border of Kafue Flats, a large flood plain in the Kafue River between Kafue gorge bordering on the east and Itezhi tezhi dam on the western side. Covering only 428 sq km, the park stretches from river Kafue in the north to the woody hills in the south. Owing to its size, it makes it one of the smallest national parks in Zambia. Lochinvar Park, a less visited World Heritage Wetland Site is much boosted by it remarkable  scenery, verdant vegetation, large wilderness and recorded bird species. It has the shallow but vast Chunga Lagoon whose size noticeably alternates depending on the levels of the river.
Ecosystem

The ecosystem is significantly composed of savannah wetlands, woodlands dominated by termitaria, acacia thickets and shrubs. There are trees and shrubs covering large termite mounds whilst grasses and herbs cover the remaining part of the area, which is flooded in the rainy season. The commonest tree species is the candelabra tree. Its diverse vegetation is an inspiring place for Zambia nature trails especially for tourists from abroad who love nature.

Wildlife

Several other common animal sights include Zebras, Wildebeests, Oribis, Buffaloes, Spotted Hyenas, Kudus, Bushbucks, and Wild Pigs; in addition to Vervet Monkeys in the woodlands. Hippos and also Crocodiles are occasionally found on the banks of the swampy areas. The park doesn’t have any dangerous animals other than the buffaloes so visitor are greatly recommended to trek around. Although vehicles should always stick by the road trucks

Flying Marabou Stork
Bird life

Lochinvar is mostly notable for its prolific birdlife with more than 420 recognized bird species spread over its 428 sq km terrain including woodland type, raptors as well as migratory varieties. The wetland hosts numerous wild birds for instance crowned and cranes as well as large marabou stork scavenging for stranded fish. Around Chunga Lagoon you will locate the Flamingos, Pink Backed and White Pelicans, Baillon’s Crake and the Red Knobbed Coot. Other birds resident here include Slaty Egrets, Secretary Birds, Falcons, Sand Pipers, Sparrow Osprey, Hawk, Marabou Stork, Wattled Crane, Black Tailed and Bar Tailed Godwits, Sandgrouse, African Cuckoo Hawk and others. Lochinvar Park is also a resting places for the Waders during their migrations and as an over wintering habitat
When to Visit Lochinvar

Lochinvar National Park can be visited all through the year but caution should be taken during the wet season because of the heavy rains. 4WD vehicles are usually used during this time because of the boggy state of most tracking roads. May is the wettest month and its characteristic of heavy floods while the rains subside in October & November, towards the finish of the dry season. Bird life is more spectacular during the wet months when migrant birds come in from the north whereas game viewing is more ideal during the dry months.
Getting There
By Road – Lochinvar National Park is a 3 hour drive from Lusaka. The best access route is using the township of Monze over the Livingstone-Lusaka road. When at the north of Monze, turn west for the gravel track signposted at Namwala, then after about 25km switch to the right on a signpost to Lochinvar, about 48km.
By Air – International flights to Lusaka, transfer to Lechwe Plains Tented Lodge via charter plane to Lochinvar Airstrip.
Other Attractions

Apart from the wildlife attractions, Lochinvar National Park is also famous for its heritage and major tourist attraction scattered all through the park. The finest being;
Sabanzi Hill
– This is one of the earliest archaeological sites in Central Africa. It was an Iron Age village and its characteristic treasure is the stunning Baobab Tree with a huge hollow trunk which can accommodate to have a number of people sleeping there.  In the past the tree was believed to have special powers that protected passing travelers from the wild beasts.
Drum Rocks
– Drum Rocks is a peculiar rocky projection nestled near the lodge. It is said to produce reverberating noise if tapped. It is also a local superstition during the olden days and travelers had to make a stop over to salute these rocks before going on.

Weather & Climate of Rwanda

Rwanda features a pleasurable temperate tropical highland climate that is moderately between hot and cold. Owing to its location just south of the equator, the country’s high altitude highly influences temperatures for most part of the year.
RAIN SEASON

Rainfall varies geographically, with the west and north-west of the country receiving more precipitation annually than the east and southeast. There are two rainy seasons in the year; Mid February through to the start of June is the long rainy season in Rwanda. So travelers are cautioned about travel to Rwanda during this period. Most of Rwanda’s unsurfaced roads become impassable and the mosquitoes arrive in full force. But it is the best season for chimp tracking in Nyungwe Forest. The short rain spell last from October to mid December. The period is however characterized by quite heavy down pours particularly in the eastern mountains. It is equally not an ideal tourist period especially for gorilla trekking.
DRY SEASON

There are also two distinct dry seasons; the long dry season in Rwanda occurs between June and late September. The country is exceptionally hot, dry and dusty. The skies are clear. Virtually there are no signs of any rain. However, this is the best time to travel to Rwanda for hiking in Nyungwe Forest and the best time to go tracking gorillas in Volcanoes National Park. The short dry spell comes from December to  early February.

Mountain Gorillas, Rwanda Premier Safari Attractions
Temperature in Rwanda

Temperature variations across the country are so pronounced; the mountainous west is generally cooler than the lower-lying east. Although average daytime temperatures generally hover around 75°F in the lower mountains, and a much cooler 55°F along the higher mountains. Night time temperatures average in the 60s.
When is the best time to visit Rwanda?

Rwanda has a diverse landscape, which is beautiful and amazing. The best time to travel to Rwanda depends on the destinations visited. However, the beauty about Rwanda is that visitors can travel at just about any time of year. The dry season from the middle of May to mid-October present a more ideal travel time. For visitors planning to track the Mountain gorillas, the dry season is more pleasant, as are any months except for July and August.
What to Pack

Rwanda, being a tropical destination adjacent the equator experiences stronger sun stronger, so travelers who are sensitive to the sun should consider packing lightweight long sleeved shirt and long pants for the hot & dry season. For night time, especially in the uplands and more mountainous parts of the country, it’s a good idea to carry warm clothing. We shouldn’t forget to carry with you an ample amount of malaria medications because of the prevalent mosquitoes during the wet seasons.
