Most times figures for annual rainfall can be quite misleading, as they are wildly different on each island. Even during the so-called rainy season usually between August and October it may not rain. The average daily maximum temperatures range from about 25ºC in January to 29ºC in August. Sea Surface Temperatures range from about 21ºC in winter to about 26ºC in the late summer. Cape Verde has the lowest temperatures of any country in West Africa. This is resultant of the cooling ocean currents and offshore winds. Winter months are marked by breezy winds, which blow in dust all the way from the Sahara. From December to March you may need a sweater in the evenings, especially at higher altitudes.

Location: The Cape Verde Islands are located in the mid-Atlantic Ocean about 450 km off the West Africa coast. The archipelago includes 10 islands and 5 islets, divided into the windward (Barlavento) and leeward (Sotavento) groups. The main islands in the windward group are Boa Vista, Santo Antão, Santa Luzia, São Vicente, São Nicolau and Sal; on the leeward side include Maio, Santiago, Fogo, and Brava. • By Air: The most popular of getting to Chad is by air. Most foreign visitors to Chad arrive by Air. There are several international and African airlines with cheap flights to Chad including Ethiopian Airlines, Sudan Airways, Cameroon Airlines, Afriqiyah Airways and Air France. All have at least one flight a week to N’Djamena. There are daily from Paris to N’Djamena by Air France. Ethiopian Airlines has 4 flights a week to and fro the Chad capital and Addis Ababa.
• By Road: There are numerous border crossings with Cameroon, via Kousseri close to N’Djaména and close to the towns of Bongor and Lere; it is possible to also connect with N’Djaména from Khartoum on street; from neighbours Niger, travellers can also opt for the paved road linking N’Djamena and Maiduguri.
