Backed up walking safari: You will have a support staff from the safari company who will set up a rolling camp basis depending on your destination and time consideration. All camps that you have ever imagined are found in Africa. You can choose between the very basic or the perhaps luxurious tented camps. Difference is clear!

Bush Camps: Could also fit the description of traditional camps. These are rather seasonal and very very semi-permanent. You will find that these camps have vehicles or even boats on them. Its all about adventure.

Lodge based: in Africa you will find permanent lodges, both luxury and mid range to suit your needs. All luxuries and facilities are located in these lodges. Most of them offer fully fledged services with your comfort considered, but you will rarely find these ones with the National parks.

MOUNTAIN GORILLA SAFARIS RWANDA
Virunga volcanoes are a habitat to the rare mountain gorillas. The undulating slopes create an ideal setting for the best exciting wildlife experience ever in Africa.

It is such an awesome moment to find a group of gorillas munching bamboo in their unhampered natural habitat, led by a silverback approximately thrice the size more bulky than an average man.

Interesting is that the gorillas are peaceful and torelant to human visitors as a resultr of habituation. It is no doubt that the Gorillas share 97% DNA with man. Look into the liquid brown eye, you will see the symbol of everlasting life.

The presence of the Gorillas in the virungas is largely attributed to the late Dian Fossy who shot a documentary entitled, “Gorillas in the mist”, set in Pac Des Volcans. Unfortunately, she died shortly after much of her research had been done and was buried at the Karisoke at her research centre in the Virungas. The critics and the general public concluded that, “ Gorillas in the Mist” served to raise international awareness of the plight of the mountain gorillas.

Gorilla populations have increased from 250 in 1970’s to about 400 in 2001, where almost half of the worlds mountain Gorillas are residents an the virunga. There are four groups of habituation gorillas in sizes of 7 of 250 individuals which can be visited by upto 32 tourist daily.

Note: Gorilla safari tracking permits are issued by the office Rwandaise du Tourioure et des parcs Nationaux (ORTPH). The Rwanda tourism board is located in Kigali or Ruhengeri.

Staying in the nearest city centres next to the wildlife parks is a cheaper option.

Camp in the Parks
Every National Game Park in Africa has public camping facilties controlled by the body responsible for widlife life tourism management and it’s a lot cheaper than staying in lodges.

African Safari Clothing, What to Wear

When it comes to African Safari, things a lot more different in terms of Fashion. Picking the right wear from a store , be it a t-shirt, shoes, dresses, e.t.c is very important.

Tips on choosing the right safari wear for Africa

1. Choose the safari clothing according to the type of safari you are going for. If its climbing Mountain Kilimanjaro or Rwenzori, you need the right gear and heavy clothing due to weather conditions. But on the whole, light clothing is encouraged for many safari destinations.

2. Colour takes a twist here. If your favourite color is Red, forget it on a safari. Red is blood so you know what the wild animals will think of you. White clothes will not work for you, most roads are dusty! Bottom line, chose the Khaki and brown clothes.

3. Safari Hat, This is also very important. Your body needs protection from the African sun which can hit your head hard while on a safari. A hat should be able to cover the back of the neck.

4. Safari Shoes. Its all about boots and sandals right? Safari boots will be needed on a walking to trekking safari. Think about the little insects, thorns and other small creatures getting access to your feet! Taking about Sandals, your feet need to breathe after a safari. Adventures involving game drives, launch cruises and other less active safari options may necessitate you to carry sandals along.
