About The Gambia

Dubbed as The Smiling Coast, The Gambia is a country situated on the west coast of Africa. In terms of land area, it is the smallest country on the mainland of Africa. It is bordered to the north, south, and east by Senegal; Guinea-Bissau to the south; Guinea to the south-east; Mali to the east and Mauritania to the north. A former British colony, Gambia gained independence on the 18th February 1965. It is one of Africa’s safest countries and has a population of around 1.5 million people. Religion is made up by 90% Muslim and 10% Christian and other religions. English is the widely spoken language.
Gambia is a country with interesting and established attractions. Tourism plays a back bone role in the life of the country. Today the country draws adventure travellers throughout the year because of its fantastic sandy beaches, wide choice of world-class hotels, excellent nightlife and welcoming weather.

CITY OF BANJUL

Banjul is the capital city of Gambia. It is a seaport town situated on St Mary’s Island, on one of the tributaries of the Gambia River. It is the country’s main administrative centre and also the principal hub of economic activities. Some the world famous tourist attractions in Banjul are the vibrant Albert Market, Box Bar Stadium, King Fahad Mosque, Römisch-Katholische Kathedrale von Banjul, the National Museum and Anglikanische Kathedrale von Banjul.

Gambia Flag

The national flag of Gambia was adopted on February 18, 1965 and is one of the world flags with no political basis.
Flag Design – It has 3 colours Red, Blue and Green horizontally separated by white stripes from top to bottom respectively. The red at the top portrays the sunshine; Blue symbolises the Gambia River that flows through the nation; and Green is representative of the varied land, forests and agriculture of the country. The red and the green stripes are of equal width. the intersecting white stripes symbolize the unity, peace and purity of the people of Gambia.
