People and Language

Ghana is a country made up of several tribes. English is the official and administrative language spoken in Ghana although Hausa and Ewe are commonly spoken throughout the country. Other major languages spoken are Fante, Ga, Twi, Dagbani and Nzema. You need some basic knowledge in some of these languages to know how to Thank, Greet, and ask for something. Ghanaians are very welcoming and this hospitality is attributed to the respect that people have for the other tribes. Making Ghana the Africa’s most hospitable travel destination.
Driving in Ghana

Driving is on the left side. Visitors without experienced of African roads are advised to organise a vehicle with a driver rather than self-drive. Driving at night has its own problems. Police barriers are more likely to worry you, and too many Ghanaians think of alcohol and driving as a great mix. Its advisable that you to only drive before sunset.
Weather in Ghana

Ghana is essentially hot and humid for most of the year. The coastal region has two rainy seasons, one peaking in May or June, and the other in October, but in the north there is a single rainy season starting in May or June. There is, however, one local peculiarity about the distribution of rainfall in Ghana. Rainfall is lower on the coast than it is a short distance inland. This is thought to be a consequence of two local features which apply to this part of the West African coastline. First, at the time when rainfall is heaviest in much of West Africa the waters offshore are unusually cool for near-equatorial latitudes; a cool current appears on the ocean surface. Second, the coast here follows a direction from west-southwest to east-northeast and is parallel with the prevailing winds. Most of the rain comes in June and May.
Best time to Travel

The best time to travel to Ghana is doubtlessly December to April after the rainy season.
What to wear

Day time temperatures are generally warm to hot, so bring lots of light clothing. Evenings are cooler, especially at high altitudes, so carry a couple of light sweaters too. Solid walking shoes and sturdy clothing are ideal for forest walks. Don’t forget to bring a hat, sunglasses and a water proof jacket.
Health Safety

Visitors are recommended to take pre-arrival vaccinations and medications for preventable diseases and other diseases you might be at risk for while here. We are of the view that you see a health-care provider who specializes in Travel Medicine. If you have a medical condition, you should also share your travel plans with any doctors you are currently seeing for other medical reasons. Hepatitis A, polio, yellow fever and typhoid are prevalent in Ghana. Visitors are equally warned against the malaria risk which exists in most regions of the country. Atovaquone, doxycycline and mefloquine are the most effective anti-malarial drugs in Ghana.
Security

Currently, Ghana is very safe and stable with relatively low crime levels compared to other West African countries. However, it is advisable to take necessary travel precautions especially in regard to time of moving. Avoid late evening travel in isolated areas if you do not have a guide. Another major concern for travellers to Ghana would be the street robberies that have seemingly increased over the years. Violence is still a rarity. All in all, take some time before travel to improve your personal security.
