Africa’s Most Pleasant City!
This is the Capital and most populous city of Ghana, a nation on the coast of the western region of Africa. The city also doubles as the capital of the Greater Accra Region. It is the administrative, communications, and economic center Ghana.
Over 70% of Ghana’s manufacturing capacity is located within this city. As Ghana’s capital since 1877, Accra possesses public buildings reflecting its transition from a 19th century suburb of Victoria Borg to the modern metropolis it is today. It is a great jumping-off point for visiting the whole of West Africa. There is plenty to observe in the city.
In addition to the excellent museums in Accra and Labadi Beach, there is also Jamestown – the oldest part of Accra. It has not yet been restored, so is not necessarily a tourist destination, but it will give you a glimpse into old Accra and also into what is still an active fishing harbor.
Accra is a commercial and culturally pleasant city on the southern coast. Start your sightseeing at the Perpetual Flame at the Cenotaph in Revolution Square then go on to the National Museum -one of the best collections in West Africa—allow at least two hours. Near to the museum is a good craft market which sells postcards, paintings and prints.

The city’s main sites are the central market of Makola, Liberation Square (memorial spot of the colonial times), smart tropical gardens, the Art studio (for shopping and cultural events) and the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial (first Ghana president) located in downtown Accra.
Accra also boasts of gorgeous beaches, some more touristy than others. Labadi and Kokrobite are a must visit once in the city; expect a busy crowd on weekends.
You’ll probably be entertained by musicians and acrobats several of whom count on it for their livelihood. Several peddlers selling all sorts of things. CoCo beach offers you the quietest environment in Teshie though very rocky and not so good for swimming. Also Misty (in between Teshie and Tema. Ada beach is another quiet beach situated on the mouth of the Volta River. There you will find some water sports activities. The trip there will take a bit longer but it’s worth it.
For the best beaches you really need to head outside of Accra. The city is also home to the National Museum, Accra Centre for National Culture, Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra International Conference Centre, the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Central Library and National Archives as well as the Residence of the President constructed in the 17th century by the Danes.
The most pleasing area of Accra is Osu. It’s located close to the Art Studio and Liberation Square. Cantonments Road- the main street plus areas around have plenty of high-quality hotels and restaurants. Fast food like burgers & pizza is widely available plus International foods like Chinese, Indian, Lebanese, and French etc. Of course not forgetting the local Ghanaian food if you’re into the club scene, there are loads of places to choose from.
Depending on the style of music, atmosphere and crowd you prefer. There is something for everyone. If you happen to be traveling with children, there is a bowling alley in Teshie, and go carts near the trade fair site in Labadi. Next to the National Assembly is the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT.
Weather
Ghana is a tropical country. Accra experiences a tropical climate because of its tropical location in the dry zone and maintains. The mean annual temperature ranges between 70 degrees F to 80 degrees F. April to June is the most pronounced rainy season although the rains usually do not prolong for a long spell.

All international flights landing in Accra touch at Kotoka International Airport. Airline companies serving the airport include KLM, Lufthansa, Alitalia, British Airways, South-African Airways, Egypt air, Afriquiya and Apstar (former Ghana Airways.)
