The International Airport serves as a hub of the West African sub-region and provides world-class air transport facilities & services for increased stakeholder value. In 2006, the airport served 1,083,431 passengers and this figure is set to rise with on-going modernization of airport facilities and operations.
The airport is operated by Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) which was established as a result of the decoupling of the existing Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in line with the modern trends in the aviation industry. By African standards, it has pretty good facilities.
The airport company was registered in January 2006 and commenced trading on 1st January 2007 tasked with the responsibility for planning, developing, managing and maintaining all airports and aerodromes in Ghana namely Kotoka International Airport (KIA) and the regional airports namely Kumasi, Tamale, Sunyani as well as various airstrips.
