Mole National Park
Mole National Park is the biggest wildlife and eco-tourism destination in Ghana. It lies 171 km west of Tamale in northwest Ghana and covers an area of approximately 4,839 sq km within Gonja District. Mole Park is a highly celebrated national park in Ghana. This is because it harbors the greatest concentration of wildlife in the country, and also doubles as the most popular wildlife destination of Ghana’s national parks. It is a very ideal place in Ghana for wildlife expedition, wildlife tourism, nature safari, and adventure tourism. Tourists can view game all year round in Mole.

Wildlife
Mole National Park is widely acclaimed for a significant concentration of large mammals. It is home to over 93 mammal species. It hosts more than 600 elephants and about 80 leopards. There are over 3,000 hartebeests in the park. There are about 5,000 buffalos and some 6,000 warthogs in Mole. Uncounted numbers of lions, hyenas and various primates can also be seen in Mole are also found in Mole. The park has about 4,000 waterbucks. Other commonly seen animals in the jungle of Mole include bushbucks, monkeys, warthogs, baboons as well as other smaller wildlife. The park is the African preserve for Defassa waterbuck, oribi and the red duiker and yellow-backed Duiker. Watching these wild animals is a unique exciting and cheerful experience of lifetime. You will surely love to see these wildlife attractions.
Bird life
Over 344 recorded rare bird species are found in Mole. Some include the palm-nut vultures, saddle-billed storks, martial eagle, the Abyssinian roller, the white-headed and herons, egrets, the violet turaco, the red-throated bee-eater plus different shrikes.
Other Attractions:
- Lovi and Mole Rivers are temporary rivers that water the park
- An ancient mud and stick Larabanga Mosque.
Getting There
The major access to the Park is through Larabanga, a nearby city of Larabanga. Also over 600km of game protection and viewing roads have been developed within the Park. This has made game drives much feasible.

Where to Stay: Accommodation is available at Mole Motel; and Savannah and Salia Brothers guesthouse (Privately managed by the Salia brothers). Camping is also possible near the motel. There is also number of other campsites throughout the park.
Wildlife Threats: Wildlife in Mole National Park like in other Ghana National Parks is highly targeted by poachers who reside within 50 km of the park areas.
