Ghana Climate & weather
Ghana is essentially warm and humid all year. To Ghana if you are to travel, the period December to April offers the finest time since you’ll miss the rains. But it is also the hottest time of year and quite uncomfortable in the north of the country.
July and August are good months to travel if you’re planning to stay in the south, since there’s a pause in the rains during this time and present the finest time to see the wildlife as flora is sparse. If your desire is to see Ghana festivals, August and September are the best months to visit since most local communities are celebrating their first harvests.
Accra, the Capital has a Tropical Savanna climate punctuated with wet and dry seasons. The wet season has two rainy seasons, with the heaviest rains occurring between April and July and lowers between the September and October season. This is the ideal season for bird-watching.
There is a short dry spell in August and a more pronounced dry season running through December to February accompanied by strong harmatttan winds from the Sahara Desert, which between November and February get stronger. February is the warmest month with an average temperature of about 28°C. August is the coolest with an average temperature of about 25°C, this also runs similar to other west African countries.
However it should be noted that the cooler months tend to be more humid than the warmer months. As a result, during the warmer months and particularly during the windy harmattan season, it’s a breezy dry heat and doesn’t feel as warm as the more humid but cooler rainy season.
