Discovering Guinea-Bissau
The Republic of Guinea-Bissau is a small coastal country located in West Africa just to the South of Senegal. It is bounded by Senegal to the north and Guinea to the south and east, with the Atlantic Ocean to its west.
Guinea-Bissau which was once part of the Gabu kingdom of the Mali Empire has a size of 36,125 sq km.
Although a relatively small country, Guinea-Bissau has enough to offer to its visitors. The beaches and wildlife in this small is exceptional; the original West African traditions and Portuguese colonial remains still stand out as prime attractions to tourists.
Guinea-Bissau safaris to the coast lead you to established fishing villages surrounded by forests, although further inland the country gets barren and dusty.
For adventurous travellers who may opt to go off the beaten track, Guinea-Bissau has a lot going for it.
This former Portuguese colony, neighboured by mainly former French colonies has a unique, laid back character treatment for those traveling through West Africa. Although there are beautiful beaches, fantasy tropical islands, and fishing and hunting, the main attraction in Guinea-Bissau is its industrious people. The country is just recovering from a war.
Several water mammals are also available. The Turtles, sharks, manatees, and a very special and very rare form of hippopotamus that lives mostly in salt-water can all be seen here.
No trip to Africa is complete without a vacation holiday. Guinea-Bissau is also not exceptional. The country’s immaculate coastline beaches offer perfect spot for rejuvenation. Of late, the country has had a refurbishment of its hotels to match the expectations of its visitors. Therefore, Guinea-Bissau travelers needn’t worry any more about where to stay.
