Abidjan Travel Guide
Location
Abidjan City is the fourth largest city of the Ivory Coast. This beautiful city lies on the south-east coast of the country on the Ebrie Lagoon which rises upon converging peninsulas and islands all connected by bridges.
Population
Abidjan is still the most populated city and is considered the economic capital of Cote d’Ivoire. Its population stands at 3,796,677 residents (2006 est.). This big size population is attributed to the displacement caused by the 2002 war; as well as the several Zimbabweans who come to settle in downtown seeking employment and safer accommodations.
Weather
Abidjan experiences a tropical monsoon climate punctuated by a long rainy season from May through July and later scanty rains between September and November. The city sometimes experiences a prolonged rainy season for several consecutive days or intensely for over an hour. The rainfall is abundant and varies between about 40 mm and 500 mm in January to June and the temperature is almost constant at around 27C. The city also has two dry seasons, though rain is seen even during the dry season. Abidjan is also generally humid throughout the year.
City Attractions
Abidjan tours take you to several city sights such as St Paul’s Cathedral designed by Aldo Spiritom; the Cocody Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art and the Parc du Banco rainforest reserve.
