Important Visa Information
For any foreign traveller, a visa is required prior to entry into Kenya. Visa applications for REFUGEE Travel Document Holders are received at the High Commission and forwarded to Department of Immigration Headquarters in Nairobi for processing. Determination of delivery of mail to the High Commission should be done through the tracking system of the relevant mailing service used by the client and not through telephone enquiries at the High Commission. The processing period varies from case to case. Visa applications should be submitted at least two months prior to travel. Passports must have at least 6 months of due validity and hold at least one blank visa page for visa to be issued.
A valid single entry visa would allow re-entry to Kenya from any of the following East African Community (EAC) member countries i.e. Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi or Rwanda
Who Needs A Visa To Kenya?
Countries whose citizens DO NOT require visas to Kenya include Mauritius, Solomon Islands, Namibia, Uganda, Swaziland, Cyprus, Dominica, The Bahamas, Ethiopia, Kiribati, Fiji Islands, Gambia, Grenada, Seychelles, Jamaica, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Barbados, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Singapore, Lesotho, Maldives, Nauru, Ghana, Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, San Marino, St Lucia, Tanzania, Zambia, Tonga, Turkey, Uruguay and Vanuatu.
Note:
1. Malaysia and South African citizens staying for more than 4 weeks require visa.
2 .Taiwan citizens are issued visas on application but endorsement is not made on the passport.
3. Travellers from all other countries not listed above require visa to Kenya.
VISA TYPES
Business Visa
- An original signed passport with least 6 months validity remaining after your intended date of departure.
- 2 visa application forms, appropriately completed and signed.
- 2 recent 2 x 2 passport photographs, in colour, front view and with a white background.
- A business letter from the relevant company in the applicant’s country of origin giving details of the proposed duration and purpose of the trip and must commit to covering any expenses incurred by the applicant.
- A letter of invitation from the host in Kenya to take care of all the financial expenses of the applicant during his stay in Kenya.
NB: Nationals seeking to visit Kenya on business are advised to check with the consulate regarding visa requirements as they may need to apply for a Non Immigrant Business Visitor carnet.
Diplomat / Official Visa
- An original signed passport with least 6 months validity remaining after your intended date of departure.
- 2 visa application forms per applicant accurately completed and signed. Signature must be original on each application.
- 2 recent 2 x 2 passport photographs, in colour, front view and with a white background.
- Proof of travel Itinerary/ flight schedule prepared by travel agents or airline companies, specifying the date, place of departure, arrival as well as the flight number.
Student Visa
- An original signed passport with least 6 months validity remaining after your intended date of departure.
- 2 visa application forms per applicant accurately completed and signed. Signature must be original on each application.
- 2 recent 2 x 2 passport photographs, in colour, front view and with a white background.
- Proof of computer generated travel Itinerary / flight schedule prepared by travel agents or airline companies, specifying the date, place of departure, arrival as well as the flight number.
- Letter of acceptance from Educational Institution in Kenya.
Tourist Visa
Those applying for the Tourist visa are only guaranteed entry clearance for a period of one month. The requirements are;
- An original signed passport with least 6 months validity remaining after your intended date of departure.
- 2 visa application forms, appropriately completed and signed.
- 2 recent 2 x 2 passport photographs, in colour, front view and with a white background.
- Evidence of financial support (recent copy of bank statement or letter from bank / sponsors)
- Proof of computer generated travel Itinerary/ flight schedule prepared by travel agents or airline companies, specifying the date, place of departure, arrival as well as the flight number.
- Letter of invitation from the host in Kenya including full residential address and telephone number if staying with a friend or relative.
Transit Visa
- An original signed passport with least 6 months validity remaining after your intended date of departure.
- 2 visa application forms per applicant accurately completed and signed. Signature must be original on each application.
- 2 recent 2 x 2 passport photographs, in colour, front view and with a white background.
- Proof of computer generated travel itinerary from the travel agency or copy of airline tickets.
Visa Processing
Visa applications presented at the counter before 12.30 p.m. are ready for collection the following day from 2.00 p.m. Postal applications take about two days from the date of receipt, depending on the speed of the postal service used and the destination. Processing of referred visas takes at least six weeks to two months, while multiple entry visas take at least a month.
Persons Who Do Not Require Visas to Kenya
1. Persons whose passport is endorsed with a valid Kenyan re-entry pass, or any other written authority in lieu of a re-entry pass.
2. Aircraft passengers transiting through Kenya, and who do not leave the international transit area of either Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or Moi International Airport.
3. Ship’s passengers arriving and departing by the same ship, and who do not leave the ship.
4. Holders of a laissez-passer issued by any of these organizations; European Union, UN, AU, African Development Bank, International Red Locust Control Organization for Central & Southern Africa, Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, Desert Locust Control Organization and COMESA, while on official duty for the organization in question, and upon presentation of an official document from this organization:
