Kenya Birding Season
If not the world’s best, Kenya represents Africa’s prime birding destination. Kenya’s birdlife is spectacular with some 1,100 different species (about 12% of the world’s species) residing in a great diversity of habitats. The rarest of bird species, exotic insect varieties, amazing plants and trees types, and escalating migratory birds are all present in here. Of particular importance are the forest birds which number to over 230 species.

The Much Common marabous
It is incredible for short birding trips to record 300-600 different varieties or even record more than 120 at one site on a single day. The multiplicity of birds in Kenya is made possible by the country’s beautiful scenery that comprises no less than 19 distinct floral habitats, ranging from desert and semi-desert to high-altitude cloud forests that make it a suitable migratory destination for birds.
The most renowned habitats for bird in Kenya include Lake Naivasha in the Rift Valley, the dry bush around the Olorgesailie Prehistoric Site, and the Escarpment Forests in the foothills of the Aberdare mountain range. Others include parks of Tsavo, Samburu as well as the Masai Mara western grasslands where you will also encounter a long and varied bird list.
More than 5,000 species of migratory birds come to Kenya throughout the year. That is why Kenya is a true paradise for bird watchers. From the world’s largest bird, the Ostrich, to spectacular flamingos that congregate in millions at the Lakes in the Great Rift Valley camouflaging them in pink.
Even without venturing outside the capital, Nairobi, more than 600 resident and migratory bird species are found; visit Nairobi national park for astonishing species. In Nairobi you are certain to find birds all over. A stroll to the grounds of the National Museum for instance is likely to turn up bright black and yellow weavers, tiny iridescent sunbirds resembling flying jewels, Secretary Bird and Moose birds with long tails unique to elsewhere in Africa. The giant Marabou Storks also frequent the city and commonly nests on the acacia trees along the streets.
We recommend the use of local guides. It will enhance your bird citing chances. Professional bird guides and Tourist experts who can accompany you on safari also provide additional guiding services that will broaden your birding tour experience.
