The country boasts spectacular bird life with over 1,100 bird species (about 12% of the world’s total) in a great diversity of habitats. More than 5,000 species of migratory birds come to Kenya throughout the year. That is why Kenya has become an absolute paradise for bird watchers. Snow-capped mountains, flamingo covered lakes, volcanoes on the Rift Valley and crystal blue waters of the Indian Ocean combine to provide habitat to a vast range of avifauna. Kenya, a ‘Land of Contrasts’ draws millions of people to see its abundant wildlife – particularly the Great Wildebeest Migration. The result has been in government recognizing wildlife tourism as an undoubted great source of its foreign exchange. Hence, conservation areas that cover more than 10% of the country’s total land area with 54 national parks and reserves have been created. In addition, seven national marine parks and reserves protect the country’s sea life have also been put under wildlife conservation protection. National Parks include Aberdare, Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, Marsabit, Masai Mara National Reserve, Meru, Mount Elgon, Nairobi NP, Ruma, Samburu, Tsavo National Park and Mount Kenya National Park and Forest Reserve.
It is therefore not for nothing for people say that Kenya is the whole world in one country.
