National Flag

LESOTHO NATIONAL FLAG
Diagonally white over blue over green with the white of double width charged with a brown Basotho Shield in the upper hoist. The current Flag was officially adopted on January 20, 1987 after a military coup which replaced the Basotho National party after 20 years of rule. The light brown traditional Basotho shield with an assegai (lance), knobkierie (club) and spear replaced the Basotho hat which was the earlier symbol on the Lesotho flag. The white triangular area is representative of peace whereas Blue depicts the significance of water (rivers and rainfall). The green colour stands for plenty and prosperity the country delights in.
