Weather in Mali
Mali, situated in West Africa, is a generally warm country. Its location on the southern side of the Sahara desert, in what is called the Sahel belt has a great impact on the climate and weather trends. The country is virtually a rainless country.
Wet Season
Mali is wettest between July and August, although the rainy season – when torrential downpours and thunderstorms are preceded by strong winds – runs from June to September. Rainy season runs between June and October, diminishing further north.
Dry / Hot Season
Mali is extremely hot in between March and May, with temperatures regularly exceeding 40°C – Timbuktu in particular can be unbearable; Temperatures relax from September to October. There is practically no rain from November up to mid March in the country. This period is warm and also characterized with relentless north easterly winds.
Mali has a cooler season from October to February which is usually followed by extremely hot, dry weather until June.
Best time to Visit
Visiting Mali is most appropriate between November and March when the temperatures are mild at around 25 ° C.
