Mauritius is a small island located in the Indian Ocean and is known as the paradise of the Indian Ocean. It is a superb destination where one can enjoy the sun, the white sand beach. The Island has several tourist attractions such as the Grand Bay in North. This was at the most touristic area of Mauritius and is renowned for its vibrant night life and discos; continuing north is the Triolet shivala the largest Hindu temple and Triolet is also the longest village of Mauritius Island, a lot visited is the Balaclava Ruins and of course the capital city Port Louis where are founds loads of shopping areas.

In the South well known is Mahebourg, Domaine des Chasseur, Souillac, Dutch Ruins, La Vanilla Park and Ile aux Aigrettes. Moving west are also popularly sought places including Casela, Chamarel, Martello Towers, Yemen and the beautiful beaches of Flic en Flac and Le Morne.

Top Attractions in Mauritius

• Pamplemousse Botanical Garden: This impressive ancient Botanical garden ranks among the top most-treasured tourist spots in Mauritius and in the whole southern hemisphere. Built in 1767 by Pierre Poivre, it covers an area of 37 hectares and lies close to the capital, Port Louis. This amazing backyard’s main attractions are the giant Victoria Regia water lilies, normally at their largest during the island’s summer months. It also has plentiful indigenous rare plant species. ‘Mon Plaisir’, Pierre Poivre’s estate is also reserved here. The garden also boasts the talipot palm, which only flowers every sixty years.

• Grand Bay: This is wonderful shopping and leisure paradise in Mauritius. Grand Bay was the original spot on the island to wholly experience the tourist boom. The Bay also doubles as the celebration venue where Mauritians hangout for a fun-filled night out. Here you find restaurants, pubs, casinos and discos. Recently renovated, La Cuvette beach is well worth a visit.

• Black River George NP: Constructed to safe guard the greenery on the island, Black River George National Park covers an area of 6,574 hectares. It was set up with the intention of making it among the most significant Mauritius sightseeing destinations. It is permissible to trek along the vegetation and get to the peak of the island, and Black River Peak too.

• Pereybère: This is a small cove in the north surrounded with white sand, clear waters and shady palm trees. It is a popular tourist site because of its wonderful, vibrant and lively beach atmosphere boasting with amazing attractions. It offers great shopping, fresh fish markets and an abundant supply of water sports such as parasailing, water-skiing, windsurfing, undersea walks and sailing plus fishing trips. It is also popular because of its craft and clothes shopping facilities; restaurants and pubs.

• Balaclava Ruins: A few metres away from Baie aux Tortues, which 17th century sailors named after the many tortoises in the area, can be found the ruins of the old Balaclava estate. Visitors will be able to see the sea walls, whose initial foundations were laid down by Mahé de Labourdonnais.

• Port Louis: Port Louis, a cosmopolitan seaport and capital of Mauritius was built in 1735 by the noted French governor, Mahe de Labourdonnais. It is situated between mountains which make it worth viewing. On the port square there are several numbers of French styled Colonial buildings and markets, which enhances attractiveness for tourists. Some of them are two churches, Natural Museum which houses rare dodo and blue pigeon remains, there are also unique flora and fauna specimens, Birds, reptiles, coral rocks and mammals on display, mosque, Municipal Theatre, Supreme Court and administrative government departments.

• Casela Bird Sanctuary: This is home to over 140 bird species from all five continents as well as fishponds, tigers, giant tortoises, monkeys, deer and beautiful flora and fauna. It is home to one of the rarest birds in the world, the pink pigeon. The sanctuary also charts the history of the dodo. The island was the only know habitat of this large waddling bird, which sadly became extinct in 1681.

• Triolet Shivala: This is the longest region on the island. A tour here gives you chance to come in touch with Maheswarnath-the biggest Hindu temple constructed in 1819 to appease the Gods of Shiva, Krishna, Vishnu, Muruga, Brahma and Ganesha.
