The most common way for international visitors to enter Morocco is by air. Air travel in Morocco is also a good option if you are in a hurry to get somewhere. However it can be rather pricey. If you are planning to fly there are several airports in Morocco that will be able to serve your needs. Both local and international Moroccan airports operate throughout the country.
International Airlines to Morocco
• Royal Air Maroc, Morocco’s national Airlines has the most flights to Morocco from the UK; the airline has daily flights from Gatwick to Marrakech and regular flights Agadir, Casablanca, Ouarzazate and Tangiers, These at times include a short stopover.
• The Budget airlines often have the cheapest flights to Morocco, particularly when booked well in advance.
• GB Airways has regular flights to Marrakech from both Heathrow and Gatwick; they also fly to Tangiers and Fez.
• Easyjet, operates has daily flights to Marrakech from London Gatwick.
• Thomson Fly operates flights to Marrakech from Luton and Manchester.
• Ryan Air flies regularly from Luton.
• Atlas Blue, this operates daily flights from Gatwick to Marrakech.
Other airlines serving Morocco are Air France, Alitalia, British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa and Swiss Airlines. Direct flights from all major European cities are fast and frequent. Direct flights to Morocco take around 3 hours.
Domestic Airlines flying between the various Moroccan Airports include Royal Air Maroc, Jet4you, Air Atlas Express, Atlas Blue, Regional Air Lines and Mondair. Local flights however are expensive, but fast and efficient.
Morocco International Airports:
• Mohammed V International Airport- The Airport is situated 25km south of Casablanca. Casablanca airport serves as the nerve centre for domestic flights, with Royal Air Maroc (RAM) as its carrier. This is probably the best known and most commonly used international airport in Morocco. It’s is an extremely busy airport that saw over 5 million passengers in 2006. Named in honor of King Mohammed V, inside the airport are giant stores, bars, restaurants, currency exchange facilities and ATMs.
• Menara International Airport- This is another major airport in Morocco situated 6km southwest of Marrakech. The Airport facilities include currency exchange, banks, stores, snack bars and restaurants. The airport handles flights to a certain number of destinations such as Brussels, Milan, London-Gatwick, Lyon, Geneva and Paris.
• Ibn Batouta International Airport, situated in Tangier This Airport is being up graded.
• Fez International Airport
• Nador International Airport in Nador
Others are Civil Airports in Morocco include Goulimime Airport, Agadir Airport, Fez Sais Airport, Nador Airport, Rabat Sale Airport, Ouarzazate Airport, Oujda Airport, Dakhla Airport, Laayoune Hassan I Airport, Essaouira Airport, Errachidia Airport and Al Hoceima Charif Idr Airport. All of Morocco’s airports are operated by the Office National Des Aéroports (ONDA).
