Mozambique Flights

Your Mozambique flight will bring you a nation blessed with countless wonders. You can smoothly fly with Linhas Aéreas de Mozambique (LAM) – the national carrier of Mozambique. Linhas Aéreas de Mozambique operates daily flights between O. R. Tambo in Johannesburg and Maputo; regional flights from Nairobi and Dar es Salaam to Pemba plus other international destinations. These also have flights to Mozambique from South Africa.

Flights generally land in Pemba around lunch, leaving more than enough time to catch a light aircraft or helicopter transfer directly to the Quirimbas Archipelago.

Other Mozambique internal flights are provided by other Mozambican airlines. Most domestic air services here operate between Beira, Maputo, Nampula, Pemba, Quelimane, Tete and Vilanculos. Usually it’s more preferable to use charter airlines along most local routes. There also domestic flights connecting Maputo to Inhambane and Vilanculos.

Mozambique has three international airports namely;

  • Maputo International Airport (MPM) – Most International flights to Mozambique are handled by this Airport. Its located 1.8 miles northwest of the city
  • Pemba Airport
  • Vilanculos Airport

Several International Airlines access Maputo- Mozambique basically via the regional destinations in Johannesburg (JNB), Dar-Es-Salaam (DAR) and Nairobi (NBO).

In general, there are five non-stop flights a week from Johannesburg on either Mozambique Airlines or South African Airways. Flights generally land in Pemba. There are four flights a week from Dar es Salaam to Pemba; and there are also four return flights in a week.

Best time to go

May to October is a dry season and is when most travellers book flights to Mozambique. The weather is cooler and drier with temperatures in the high 70s. The summer – June, July and August – are Mozambique’s coolest months. This is the most popular time to fly to Mozambique for safaris, as the animals gather around the water holes then.
