Khartoum is the capital of Sudan. It is situated at the confluence of the White Nile flowing north from Lake Victoria, and the Blue Nile flowing west from Ethiopia. The city is divided by the Nile intro three distinct areas namely; Khartoum proper (seat of the Sudanese government); North Khartoum, primarily an industrial area; and Omdurman, once the capital of the Mahdist government. Khartoum city is one of the pretty watchful destinations in the Arabic world and has many brother relations with many other Arabic countries of the world like Saudi Arabia, Oman and Qatar.
Khartoum, Sudan’s second largest city is a multi-purpose city performing several functions. An educational center, it is the site of the University of Khartoum founded 1903. The city offers a perfect blend of some historical sights, museums, auspicious events, lush shopping, and many other activities are the few words that ca be use to describe Khartoum. It is one of the best tourist’s destinations in Africa. It is a beautiful city heaven for fun-loving tourists and sightseeing lovers.

University of Khartoum

Climate of Khartoum
Between February and November, the average maximum temperature in the city is more than 100 degrees F. The summer season in Khartoum is March to June. However, May is the hottest month of the year. Autumn in Khartoum falls from mid-July to September. This is also when the city experiences the most sandstorms of any part in the year. The winter period in Khartoum is from October through to March and is characterized by low rainfall with temperature averaging at 75 degrees F.
City Transportation / Getting Around
Khartoum is both easy and difficult to get around. It is easy in that much of the city is laid out on a grid, with long straight roads and the airport and Nile as easy reference places. It is difficult in that the city is very spread out, making walking a long and tiring option.
Road Travel
There are taxis in three categories; bright yellow cabs; small 6-seater minivans and the modern comfortable air conditioned metered cabs. Apart from metered taxis, there are Minibuses offering relatively cheaper ways to get around Khartoum especially between the three cities. Most minibuses leave from the square near the Great Mosque (Mesjid al-Kabir) or nearby in Khartoum proper. Car hire is also available although they are relatively pricey, going for 150 SDG per day for a Corolla, and 300 SDG.
Air Travel
Most international flights to Sudan and direct flights to Khartoum touch down at Khartoum Int’l Airport. Among the cities with direct flight connections with Khartoum are KLM (Amsterdam), Kenya Airlines (Nairobi), Lufthansa (Frankfurt), British Airways (London), EgyptAir (Cairo), Gulf Air (Bahrain), Emirates (Dubai), Ethiopian Airlines (Addis Ababa), Qatar Airways (Doha) Turkish Airlines (Istanbul, on Tuesdays, Fridays, Sundays).

KHARTOUM TOURS
Khartoum is one of the best tourist’s destinations in Africa. The city can be divided intro three distinct areas namely; Khartoum proper; North Khartoum, primarily an industrial area; and Omdurman, once the capital of the Mahdist government. This is the place with so many attractions that you must spend at least a couple of days to take in all the major attractions it has to offer. Some of the must see attractions include the Confluence of Nile, Al Mogran Amusement Park and Archaeological National Museum.
Take flights to Khartoum and explore this mesmerizing city that welcomes sightseeing lovers with myriad colours of its cultural diversity and geographical splendour.
——————————————————————————————————————————————————

ADVENTURE TOURS
Hop on a boat and dive in the Red Sea exactly where the drinking water is clear and its variety of fish and marine gardens are a wonder to behold. Khartoum, the nation’s capital, has only been recently developed as a tourist spot so communication and facilities outside the city will be difficult to come. Volcanic streams and waterfalls make up for that scenic beauty of Jebel Marra; the highest peak of Western Sudan and likewise a favorite resort place. Visit the largest pyramid cemetery of the Nile valley – dozens of black pyramids rise from the desert sands.
——————————————————————————————————————————————————-

WILDLIFE TOURS
Sudan is a land blessed with astonishingly diverse terrain, creating perfect abode for thousands of species of flora and fauna. Southern Sudan in particular has very good flora and fauna. This region has spectacular wildlife populations. The notable wildlife destinations include El Dinder National Park, Boma National Park, Sudd Wetland and Southern National Park. Some of the existing large populations are of several species of antelopes such as Kob and Topis; others include giraffe, hartebeest, reedbuck, roan antelope, bushbuck, oribi, waterbuck, greater kudu, gazelle, dik-dik, buffalo, lion, and ostrich. Safaris to Dinder Park, world’s biggest nature reserve is spectacular. Hearing roaring lions, very close to the hut in the middle of the night is such an impressive experience.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————

DESERT TOURS
Desert tours are the most prominent travel circuits in the Republic of Sudan. They take one to the dry arid land of the country. Undertaking Desert Tours in Sudan helps one see the various creatures which struggle for existence in the deserts of the country. Desert trekkers explore a number of magnificent monuments, forts, palaces, temples and many more during these tours. For instance the Sudan Western Desert that comprises of the northern Darfur and north-western Kordofan provinces exposes visitors to animals like the dama gazelle, Barbary sheep, addax, white Oryx and the Loder’s gazelle. A tour to the vast Nubian Desert which lies to the west of the Red Sea Hills is also enthralling. This is a flat desert with impressive sq km of rolling sand dunes and rock formations with wadis in between. Exotic sand dunes and delightful camel safaris are the prime attractions during desert tours in Sudan.

Discovering Sudan

Sudan is a country in northeastern Africa. It shares borders with Egypt in the north, the Red Sea in the northeast, Eritrea and Ethiopia in the east, Kenya and Uganda in the southeast, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic in the southwest, Chad in the west and Libya in the northwest.
With an area of 2,505,810 sq km, Sudan is the largest African country with dominantly flat plains, punctuated by several mountain ranges with the Jebel Marra in the west as the most pronounced and the highest range. Several others ranges are distributed all over the country for instance; in the south is Mount Kinyeti Imatong (3,187 m) near the border with Uganda; in the east are the Red Sea Hills. Jebel Barkal Mountain in Nubia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The capital is Khartoum and is a multifunctional city. Omdurman is the country’s largest city. The country has a population of 42 million people. Sunni Islam is the official and largest religion. Arabic and English are the official languages.
Sudan is an abundantly gifted nation. It has several dams on the Blue and White Niles. Among them are the Sennar and Roseires on the Blue Nile, and Jebel Aulia Dam on the White Nile. There is also Lake Nubia on the Sudanese-Egyptian border.
Much as most of the country’s wildlife potential is not extensively exploited, Sudan ahs amazing wildlife especially desert animals. But of much concern it is widely threatened by hunting. The most endangered species include: the waldrapp, Northern White Rhinoceros, Tora Hartebeest, Slender-horned Gazelle, and hawksbill turtle. The Sahara Oryx has become extinct in the wild.

Sudan Women

CAUTION!
Those interested in world wildlife and ecology should desist from transactions involving wild meat, stuffed crocodiles, ivory goods, and purses made from crocodile skin. Animals are being massacred in large numbers to provide these goods, and they are unfortunately on sale throughout the country and in Africa.

Jebel Barkal

For the ardent shoppers on travel, ebony carvings are in plenty for sale here especially in the souqs at Omdurman and Khartoum as well as gold jewellery. In the town of Mellit in the west shoppers are exposed to attractive carpets and gorgeously designed pottery.
Visitors should have less accommodation worries. Major Cheap Sudan Hotels are in the Khartoum Area ready to host you.
Cultural tours and events are also gaining popularity; for instance during the holy celebrations of Eid Al-Fitr, it is typical to find Sudanese entertainment bands performing in cities and towns. Sudanese music is an enticing blend of Arabian and African, listening can be a pleasant experience.
When to Go
Weather in Sudan ranges from hot and dry to tropical for most time of the year. The best time to go to Sudan in between September and April. Rains subside from July to late August but present few troubles for people travelling to the northern regions save to the possible devastation that may occur on the roads from the Nuba Mountains.
Places of Interest
- The pyramids of Meroe found north of Khartoum
- Jebel Barkal – a sandstone monolith
- Dinder National Park – renowned to host several bushbucks, crane, antelope, giraffe and hundreds of pelican species.
- River Nile
- The Red Sea

About Sudan
Sudan is the largest African country but unfortunately one of the least explored African nation. It is successfully emerging itself into a newly discovered tourist’s destination with much to see and to do there. Paying a tour to Sudan can be rewarding and even life-changing experience for you. So flights to Sudan are unavoidable to have an unforgettable African adventure. Good transportation facilities are provided in the country that enables tourists to easily explore the entire region without any difficulty.
The largest country in Africa, and tenth largest in the world, Sudan, is located in the north east of the continent where it has a coast on the Red Sea and borders with ten other countries. Its size, its people, and its range of attractions are enough to attract tourists to the country, however, due to continued civil war, un-essential travel is not advised.
The capital of Sudan, though not the largest city, is Khartoum. Located inland, Khartoum was established at the point where the Blue and White Nile Rivers meet to form the River Nile. With the two rivers crossing the city, Khartoum is in many ways an attractive city. Other attractions in Khartoum include the confluence of the Blue Nile and White Nile, further up Nile Street; Khartoum old Mosque; and Souq Arabi marketplace
Sudan is served by one international airport in the capital and largest city, Khartoum International Airport (KRT). The Khartoum Airport is located in Al-Amarat, close to Khartoum, and just a taxi ride away.
Flights to Sudan from South Africa are indirect with one or two stops.

NB. Emirates offers one or two stop flights to Sudan from South Africa.
Being such a large country there are variations in the climate across Sudan. Generally though it ranges from arid in the north, to tropical in the far south west, with little temperature variation across the year. Taking Khartoum as an example, the average highs range from 28C to 38C, and low from 19C to 31C.
Considering how hostile Sudan might appear to foreign visitors, the nation is surprisingly well served by international carriers, and Khartoum International Airport, the main port of entry, is an unexpectedly sophisticated, efficient and reasonably well ordered airport.
Only KLM, British Airways and Lufthansa operate regular connections from Europe, while the bulk of traffic in an out of Khartoum tends to originate form and be directed to other Arab and Middle Eastern destinations. Khartoum is also very much on the flight plan of several regional carriers, and is well connected to surrounding capitals such as Addis Ababa, Nairobi, N’djamena, Tripoli, Entebbe and Kano.
There are quite a number of smaller local and domestic airports, runways and landing-strips, although one ought not to rely heavily on the availability of any scheduled domestic flights. Despite outward appearances, cancelled flights and long delays at customs can be a regular hazard.

Khartoum

One of the outstanding tourism resorts is Khartoum located in Sudan. The city exhibits endless tourism traits due to which people book cheap flights to Khartoum, and one of that is its ideal Mediterranean climate along with many other attractions. In short, there is a hidden treasure which you ought to explore when you think to travel for leisure purpose. Travellers are facilitated who travel to Khartoum, in the most unique and ostentatious way making their vacations unforgettable. A perfect blend of some historical sights, museums, auspicious events, lush shopping, and many other activities diffuses a wish amongst the leisure travellers to arrange cheap flights to Sudan this year.
