Entry Requirements in Tanzania
All foreigners from non-Commonwealth countries are required to have a valid visa unless their countries have agreements with Tanzania under which the visa requirement is waived.
Passport in Tanzania
Foreign travelers to Tanzania should be in possession of a valid passport. The passport is to be presented to the Immigration Control Officer at any entry point: border station, airport, harbour. The passport must be presented along with a valid visa and resident permit. A visitor must also present a return ticket together with proof that the visitor has adequate funds to sustain him or herself in the country.

VISA TYPES
Business Visa
The business visa is issued for various reasons such as making feasibility studies, establishing professional and business contacts, and making arrangements for investments. The validity of the visa can vary from one month to twelve months. The fees for the visa are determined administratively, so it is advised that prospective investors consult the appropriate authorities before making application for visas.
Multiple-Entry Visa
Foreigners who, because of their business or investments, need to make frequent visits to the United Republic of Tanzania are issued multiple-entry visas. Their validity ranges from one month to a year. Multiple-Entry Visa fees are determined administratively. So it is paramount that prospective investors consult the appropriate authorities before applying.
Ordinary Visa
Also the tourist visa is issued at any Tanzanian embassy. It grants visitors the permission to enter the country through designated entry points along the borders, airports and harbour stations. However, a person coming from a country with no a Tanzanian embassy, is issued a visa any of the entry points in Tanzania.
Referred Visa
The referred visa is one that requires special clearances from the Principal Commissioner of Immigration Services, Dar es Salaam or the Commissioner of Immigration in Zanzibar. This type of visa is required for individuals from specified countries and types.
Transit Visa
A transit visa is a permission to cross Tanzania from one entry point to another and is for people whose purpose in entering Tanzania is simply to pass through without visiting. It is issued for a maximum of two weeks. The transit visa is issued only to people with onward tickets, sufficient funds for the crossing in Tanzania, and an entry visa for the country of destination.

Time Required Issuing Visas in Tanzania
The processing times vary from application to application. It much depends on the type of visa, the nationality of the person applying, the time of year and other variables. The official processing hours are 9:00am to 1:00 pm Monday to Friday. It may take approximately 10 working days, but this is subject to change. Rush service is available for an extra $20, which takes 3 working days. It is advised that applicants start the application process well in advance of their scheduled trip.
