Kéran National Park

Established in 1971 from a forest reserve, Kéran National Park (Parc National de la Kéran) is one of the three wildlife sanctuaries in Togo. It is located about 530km north of Lomé in the Kara area, north of the country. It lies in an area covered by an extensive flood-plain caused by river Koumongou, a tributary of the Oti. Kéran National Park is one the most sought after destination during Togo tours.

Sub-Sudanian savannah with wooded savannah dominated by Butyrospermum paradoxum, plus a few pockets of forests as well as some sparsely-vegetated plains.
Wildlife

Kéran National Park is a relative more game-rich wildlife sanctuary compared to other Togo national parks. It is home to animals such as buffaloes, elephants and antelopes. There are also some few mare-aux-Lions found here. Several of the elephants found in this national park are commonly spotted roaming into neighbours Ghana.

Bird life
The Park is also an excellent birding destination in both Togo and West Africa in General. It location immediately south of Oti Faunal Reserve in the north of the country, makes the park is perfect bird habitant. Available also are some rare bird varieties along the small wetland area close to the Koumongou River.
When to Visit

The Park is best for Togo adventure holidays and safaris during the dry season of November to mid April. It comes second among all the other major natural attractions in Togo during this time.
