Discovering Togo

Togo is a small country in West Africa. It is bounded by three countries; Ghana in the west, Benin in the east and Burkina Faso in the north and the Bight of Benin (Gulf of Guinea) in the south on which the capital Lomé is located. Togo covers an area of approximately 56,785 sq km with a population of approximately 6.7 million and is composed of more than 20 ethnic groups. The two major groups are the Ewe in the South and the Kabye in the North.
Population distribution in the country is highly influenced by uneven soil and geographical variations. Settlement in Togo is dominantly concentrated in the south and along the major north-south routes connecting the coast to the Sahel.

Weather in Togo
Togo has a generally tropical climate with average temperatures ranging from 28 °C on the coast to about 30 °C in the northernmost regions, with a dry climate and characteristics of a tropical savannah. To the south there are two seasons of rain (the first starts in April ending in July; while the second one starts September and ends in November), even though the average rainfall is not very high. Togo is relatively an all-year travel destination because it’s not as hot as in other regional neighbours.
Language and Religion

The official language is French although several other languages are spoken, particularly those of the Gbe family. The largest religious group in Togo is those with indigenous beliefs, but there are significant Christian and Muslim minorities. More than 55 % of Togolese are followers of one or more natural religions. 30% are  Christians and about 19% followers of Sunni Islam.

The Capital - Lomé
Lomé
is the capital city of Togo. Nestled on the Gulf of Guinea towards the south west and spread over the area of 56785 km², Lomé accommodates the majority count of the Togolese population (737,751 residents); which is all esteemed to dwell in such a popular yet valuable destination. The city prides in several touristic features it houses that are the magnetism why tourist count never go less here. Lomé is neighboured by Ablogame, Adawlato, Amoutive and Tokoin; and these regions northwards are separated from the city

centre by lagoons. Lomé is the country’s industrial and administrative hub as well as the chief port. It is home to spectacular beaches.
Vegetation

In the north the land is characterized by a gently rolling savanna in contrast to the center of the country, which is characterized by hills. The south of Togo is characterized by a savanna and woodland plateau which reaches to a coastal plain with extensive lagoons and marshes.

Culture in Togo

The way of life in is evidently influenced by cultural diversity. The country is known for the variety of cultures the largest and most influential of which being the Ewe, Mina, Tem, Tchamba and Kabre. Southern Togo is dominated by the Ewe and is popular with the Voodoo, a ritual practice.
